Happy Friday! The last few weeks have been crazy over here, mostly with the end of summer, and mostly with the start of school, but in huge part because there are some big changes I've been working on that are coming to Merrick's Art, one of which is DIY FRIDAY, which will now be a permanent thing! So if you're looking for my tutorials, make sure you stop by every Friday, because I'll have something new for you to make every single week!
To kick off DIY FRIDAY, I have a super fun tutorial and giveaway for you! Last month, during the Nordstrom Sale, I ran across this amazing leather Halogen dress, and instantly wanted it. It was a little too short for me, and a little too expensive, so instead I teamed up with Leather Hide Store and made my own, and today I'll show you how!
I had some serious doubts about this dress up until the very last seam, and sewing through this thick leather was not very easy, but I feel so proud of this dress and learned a ton while making it. I'm so excited to share it with you!

This week is the first week of Autumn, and although it's still plenty warm and sunny here in Southern California, I am feeling the Fall itch. Time to pull out all my winter clothes and dream of crunchy leaves under my boots, apple picking, pumpkin patches, and hot chocolate.
So I've rounded up a few of my favorite picks that just scream Fall. And the best part? They're all under $50 (except that studded bag -- but it's only a couple dollars over)

During those transitional months, when the weather is changing from hot to cold or vice versa, it's important to have a few transitional pieces -- ones that work for warm and cold days, and can also work in your closet during most of the year.
I teamed up with White Plum today to bring you two outfits that are perfect for those transitional days, AND to give away $100 to their darling shop! The Pacifica Embroidered Blouse is one I could wear ALL summer long with shorts and sandals, but is perfect with boots and a jacket as the weather cools down.
And the Archer Oversized Sweater? You guys, I want to live in this thing. It's that perfect cozy sweater you can bundle up in during the cooler mornings and evenings, and then wrap around your waist for a laid back (and less hot) look during the day.
Enter to win $100 to White Plum through the rafflecopter widget below, or, if you can't wait, use code MERRICKSART to get 20% off your purchase until 10/24!

This season I'm obsessed with jewel tones and have added a few pieces in these rich colors to my wardrobe. This gorgeous deep purple wool coat is a recent addition to my closet and I cannot get enough of it. We don't have a huge need for thick winter coats in SoCal, but our evenings are finally cool enough to wear a coat so I've loved having this one to throw on for a bold splash of color.
Typically I would pair a bold jewel tone with a neutral like black, white, or chambray, but this pastel pink furry sweater was calling my name from my closet, and the combination of pastel and jewel tone just worked so perfectly -- unexpected, but pretty, and so feminine. Then I grounded and completed the outfit a little bit with some distressed denim and black accessories. I think the pastel and jewel tone combination is a new favorite -- do you think you'd wear it?
Oh, and wait! There's more amazing and unbelievably well made coats from Land's End -- check out my favorites in the widget below!
